An open letter in support of Bathurst’s fast-track application for the Buller Plateaux Continuation Project has so far gained support from close to 5,000 West Coasters. As co-organiser Jessie Creedmore puts it, “comments total 64,320 words; supporters have written a full short novel, one signature at a time, surpassing The Great Gatsby in volume of feedback content.

She also says, “We rely on community and businesses to share the Open Letter link, as we’re a group of busy working people doing this voluntarily.”

This is a good cause for the West Coast, and demonstrates people power in support of mining. Here’s a link to the website https://ourbullerfuture.nz/ this local group has set up. They are also on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ourbullerfuture/

Our Buller Future’s Parliamentary petition was read in Parliament last week, referencing the open letter. The group now intends to write to West Coast–Tasman candidates and political party leaders asking them directly where they stand on the Buller Plateaux Continuation Project and what they propose for Buller under either outcome — approval or decline.
