
MinEx Workshop in Greymouth Wednesday the 30th of April
There is still time to register for a MinEx Health and Safety Workshop being held in Greymouth on Wednesday the 30th of April.
The workshop will cover updates on health and safety issues and best practices across various sectors. A total of eight hours of unrestricted CPD are available, across the following topics:
- Trends in safety performance
- Lessons from serious incidents
- WorkSafe inspectorate update
- Emergency preparedness
- Worker health
- Recent legal decisions on responsibility of officers

New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals talks through alluvial gold permits
In early March New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals staff visited the West Coast to meet with mineral permit owners and operators, and other industry participants.
Principal minerals advisor, Tim Jouneaux, delivered two presentations – one in Greymouth and one in Hokitika – on the requirements for demonstrating a mineable alluvial gold resource for Tier 2 alluvial gold mining permit applicants, as well as the limits of bulk sample volumes for exploration permits.

Meet the Miners covers Reefton gold field
Minerals West Coast recently launched the latest episode of online series, Meet the Miners. The latest episode covers operators in the Reefton area focused on hard-rock gold resources. This includes RUA Gold carrying out exploration work, Federation Mining’s Snowy River project, and OceanaGold’s rehabilitation of the former Globe-Progress Mine. NZ Herald article analyses royalty rates and value of mining in New Zealand
In early April the New Zealand Herald ran an opinion piece covering royalty rates for Crown owned minerals, written by Minerals West Coast’s manager, Patrick Phelps. The article covers the history of royalty rates under successive governments, why they are set at the levels they are set, and how much money stays in New Zealand when mining operations occur due to foreign direct investment. Call for papers for West Coast Minerals Forum 2025
Minerals West Coast is calling for papers for this year’s West Coast Minerals Forum. The date for this year’s forum, which will be held in Runanga, is Thursday the 30th of October.
Minerals West Coast asks for anyone who may wish to deliver a presentation at this year’s forum to please email through their presentation idea/topic to info@mineralswestcoast.org.nz for consideration.
